Tranby House - Perth

Tranby House is geographically located at latitude 31° 56' 34" South of the Equator and longitude 115° 54' 37" East of the Prime Meridian on the Map of Australia. The first Methodists came to WA in February 1830, aboard the ship Tranby, to found a small religious community in the newly established Swan River Colony. Led by the brothers John and Joseph Hardey, the group included a surgeon, preacher, bricklayer, blacksmith, shoemaker, surveyor, hatter, midshipman and several farmers. They were granted upon arrival land on a peninsula four miles upstream from Perth, where the present Perth suburb of Maylands is situated. The group were amongst the first European residents of the area and the buildings they constructed were some of the first in the colony. Tranby House was named after the ship that brought the settlers to WA and was established as the residence by Joseph Hardey and his family.
